COMMERCE, MI — Today, former Governor and Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney rallied supporters for Dave Trott, candidate in Michigan’s 11th Congressional District.
“Dave Trott is a conservative who will do what is right for families in Michigan’s 11th Congressinal District. As someone who grew up here, I know that Dave Trott has the honesty, integrity and experience we need in Washington,” said Gov. Romney. “As a job-creator, Dave Trott knows how to balance budgets, cut spending, and fix the mess in Washington. I am proud to endorse Dave Trott for Congress.”
Romney campaigned with Trott at the Troy Marriott where hundreds of Republican activists attended.
“I am honored and humbled to be joined by Mitt Romney and so many friends tonight,” said Trott. “Michigan and the nation are truly blessed to have the Romney family, and I am so proud of this tremendous endorsement.”
As reported by Inside Michigan Politics earlier this morning, the Trott campaign has internal polling showing Trott ahead of Bentivolio by 14 points. The live-operator survey taken last week by National Research Inc., was obtained by Inside Michigan Politics. Former New York Times analyst Nate Silver ranked National Research near the top of his list of accurate polling firms in the 2012 cycle. Trott had 33% to Bentivolio’s 19%, giving him a 14-point lead for the Aug. 5 primary. When the pollster included voters leaning to one candidate, Trott’s percentage grew to 39% while Bentivolio only managed 21%, a lead of 18% for Dave.
The campaign also announced additional community leaders and grassroots activists who have endorsed Trott totaling nearly 400. A list of the full names is available here.
